HC Deb 23 May 1898 vol 58 c406
MR. J. ELLIS (Notts,) Rushcliffe

I beg to ask the First Lord of the Treasury when it is proposed to adjourn the House for Whitsuntide and re-assemble again?

THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER (for the FIRST LORD of the TREASURY)

It is proposed that the House shall adjourn at the close of the sitting to-morrow until Monday week.

MR. LABOUCHERE (Northampton)

When will the adjournment be moved—at the commencement or at the end of public business?

THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER

We have every reason to hope that the Irish Local Government Bill may be concluded in the course of to-morrow's sitting, and after the conclusion of the Committee stage the motion will be made.

MR. LABOUCHERE

Then I understand that the right honourable Gentleman will keep a House while Members express their views on things in general as is usual.

THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER

We must get the adjournment.
