HC Deb 23 May 1898 vol 58 cc337-8
MR. SERJEANT HEMPHILL (Tyrone, N.)

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Trade whether his attention has been drawn to the defective condition of the canal at Strabane, in the county of Tyrone, to the detriment of trade in that locality; and, if so, whether any steps have been taken or are about to be taken by the Board of Trade to remedy the grievance; and, if not, will he explain on what grounds?

THE PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD OF TRADE

Yes, Sir, I have received complaints as to the condition of this canal, and they are now under my consideration, but, as the canal is not owned or managed by the Board of Trade, I cannot say what steps it will be possible to take in order to bring about a removal of the grievance.
