HC Deb 16 May 1898 vol 57 c1384
SIR J. LENG (Dundee)

I beg to ask the First Lord of the Treasury whether, having regard to the numerous petitions presented to the House in this and seven previous Sessions from religious, temperance, and philanthropic associations in favour of the Grocers' Licences Abolition (Scotland) Bill, which is the first Order on Wednesday, time can be given for the consideration of the Bill on that day?

THE FIRST LORD OF THE TREASURY

I am obliged to say with regard to this Bill what I said in respect to the Irish Sunday Closing Bill—namely, that until the Committee stage of the Irish Local Government Bill is concluded no private Members' Bill can take precedence of it.
