HC Deb 12 May 1898 vol 57 c1082
MR. T. R. BUCHANAN (Aberdeenshire, E.)

I beg to ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether the £2,550,000 under the Public Buildings Expenses Act of this year has been invested, and in what securities?

THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER

Since the Public Buildings Expenses Act was passed the National Debt Commissioners have had considerable sums of money to invest, so there has been no object yet in transferring the building money from the Exchequer to the account of the National Debt Commissioners. But convenient opportunities for so doing will be watched, and it will all be invested by degrees during the course of the present financial year.
