HC Deb 10 May 1898 vol 57 c835
MR. W. AMBROSE (Middlesex, Harrow)

I beg to ask the First Lord of the Admiralty if any, and, if so, what provision has been made to ensure the safety and protection of British citizens and interests in the Philippine Islands during the war between the United States of America and Spain?

THE FIRST LORD OF THE ADMIRALTY

I stated the other day that the Linnet had been ordered to Manila, and that the Immortalité would follow her. I do not know the precise spot to which my honourable Friend alludes, but no doubt the officers of those two ships will do their best to protect the interests of British subjects.
