HC Deb 10 May 1898 vol 57 c832
MR. WEIR

I beg to ask the Lord Advocate if he will state in how many schools in Gaelic-speaking districts of the Highlands and Islands of Scotland the Scottish Education Department has sanctioned the use of the text books in English and Gaelic?

MR. GRAHAM MURRAY

There is no record of any application to the Department for sanction to the use of text books in English and Gaelic, and I understand that no such books are in use in Scotland. The choice of books for the study of Gaelic is left to school managers in consultation with Her Majesty's Inspector.
