HC Deb 06 May 1898 vol 57 c533
MR. LLOYD MORGAN (Carmarthen, W.)

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Agriculture whether his attention has been called to the fact that the Local Government Board have informed the Carmarthen Rural District Council that they have no power to borrow any money to make the improvement to the Market Place at St. Clears required by the order of the Board of Agriculture; and whether he will therefore consider the question of suspending the order?

LORD STANLEY

On behalf of my right honourable Friend I have to say that the reply to the first inquiry is in the affirmative. My right honourable Friend has personally discussed this matter with the Chairman of the St. Clears Market Committee, and he has every reason to hope that such arrangements will now be made as to render the closing of the market unnecessary.
