HC Deb 05 May 1898 vol 57 c382
MR. PICKERSGILL

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many persons discharged from local prisons in England and Wales during the year ended 31st March, 1897, received a gratuity of £2, the maximum allowed by the Prison Act?

THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE HOME DEPARTMENT (Sir M. W. RIDLEY,) Lancashire, N., Blackpool

The information which the honourable Member asks for is not immediately available, and would involve a good deal of labour to collect. I have called, however, for a Return covering a shorter period, and shall be happy to communicate the results to him when they reach me.
