HC Deb 02 May 1898 vol 57 c19
MR. WILLIAM JOHNSTON

I beg to ask Mr. Attorney General for Ireland if he is able to state whether the Lord Lieutenant can annul an Order in Council under Part VI. of the Local Government (Ireland) Bill 1898, previously duly made as provided in Clause 65, sub-section (1), of the Bill, by any means other than by laying before both Houses of Parliament another Order in Council, as provided in Clause 65, sub-section (2); and, if by any other means, by what means?

MR. ATKINSON

No, Sir; an Order in Council, when confirmed by Parliament, becomes a statute, and can only be repealed by another statute.
