HC Deb 25 March 1898 vol 55 c905
MR. J. P. FARRELL

I beg to ask the Attorney General for Ireland whether his attention has been called to the working and management of the Edgeworthstown Loan Fund Society; whether he is aware that the treasurer proved a defaulter and committed suicide, leaving the affairs of the society in a state of inextricable confusion; that its business was carefully examined by the officer of the central board; and may those investors who were robbed by the defalcations now hope for any redress from the Government?

MR. GERALD BALFOUR (who replied)

At the request of my right hon. Friend I will answer this Question. I replied very fully to a Question in similar terms addressed to me by the hon. Member for North Longford on the 23rd February last year. To that reply I have nothing to add.
