HC Deb 25 March 1898 vol 55 c900
SIR J. BEVAN EDWARDS (Hythe)

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for War if he can state the proposals of the War Office with regard to the barrack accommodation at Shorncliffe; whether new buildings are to be erected; and, if so, when will they be completed; and if it is intended to increase the troops in camp by the addition of a battalion of Infantry or regiment of Cavalry?

MR. BRODRICK

The intention is to provide accommodation in permanent buildings at Shorncliffe for a Cavalry regiment on the higher establishment, two battalions of Infantry, three field batteries, a field company of Engineers, and two companies of the Army Service Corps. The Cavalry buildings are expected to be completed in 1899, and the others in 1900. It is proposed to augment the garrison by a battalion of Infantry.
