BALFOUR,) Leeds, CentralThe materials for a Return showing the poor rate and county cess for the year 1897–98 are not yet available, nor could the figures for that year be checked till after the audit by the Local Government Board's auditors at the end of the year. I can, however, give a Return showing in respect of the standard year the total valuation of each Poor Law union of all rateable hereditaments not agricultural land as defined in the Local Government Bill. If such a Return is desired I am prepared to lay it on the Table of the House.
