HC Deb 17 March 1898 vol 55 cc219-20

Order of the Day for the Second Reading read.

MR. H. H. ASQUITH (Fife, E.)

On the question that the Second Reading of this Bill be taken on Monday, may I ask the right hon. Gentleman on what day he proposes to effectively take the Bill? It is a Measure which excites very great interest in all quarters of the House, and, although it is not contentious, it is undoubtedly a very important Measure. I think the House should have some definite assurance that the Second Reading will be put down at an early day, and, if possible, in the early hours of the evening.

THE FIRST LORD OF THE ADMIRALTY (Mr. G. J. GOSCHEN,) St. George's, Hanover Square

It will not be taken before Thursday.
