BILL (Staffordshire, Leek)I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for War whether there is at present at the Staff College at Camberley any professor, or other person, qualified to teach the Russian language; and, if not, whether he will take steps to secure the appointment of a professor for the benefit of officers anxious to learn that language?
§ MR. BRODRICKThere used to be a Professor of Russian at the Staff College; but the number of officers learning the language was insufficient to justify the expense. As a money reward is given for proficiency in Russian, it is not considered necessary to provide the means of studying the language.
