Member for Halifax (Mr. Billson), I beg to ask the President of the Local Government Board if he can give the number of deaths of inmates of workhouses in England and Wales over 60 years of age during the years 1895, 1896, and 1897, and the proportion such deaths bear to the general death-rate over the same age in England and Wales?

The annual Reports of the Registrar General show for each year the total number of deaths in each workhouse, and the total number in the workhouses in the several counties in England and Wales. But these Returns do not show separately the deaths of persons over and under 60 years of age.
