§ THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE COLONIES (Mr. J. CHAMBERLAIN,) Birmingham, W.The Queen has approved the appointment of Sir David Chalmers, late Chief Justice of British Guiana, and formerly Chief Justice of the Gold Coast, 215 to be a Royal Commissioner to inquire into the circumstances which have led to the insurrection in the Sierra Leone Protectorate, and generally into the state of affairs in the colony and Protectorate. The instructions to be given to him will be laid before the House in a few days.
