§ MR. STEADMANI beg to ask the Secretary to the Treasury, as representing the Postmaster General, why postal servants do not participate in the privilege of a holiday on the Queen's birthday, with the rest of the Civil Service, as they did formerly?
§ MR. HANBURYPostal servants do not participate generally in the privilege of a holiday on the Queen's birthday, because the public require their letters and their telegrams on that day as on other days. Any alteration or reduction of the deliveries or collections on that day would be manifestly impossible, because the Queen's birthday is frequently celebrated, as it was celebrated this year, on one day in the metropolis, and on another day in the country. The clerical branch of the Service are given, as far as possible, however, a holiday on the Queen's birthday. The honourable Member is mistaken in thinking that any change has been made in these respects.
