I beg to ask the Secretary of State for India whether he is aware that Lord Lansdowne, while Viceroy of India, strongly recommended the extension of the frontier medal for the operations in the Kachin Hills; and whether he will take the opinion of the Commander-in-Chief with respect to this matter?

I am aware of the fact mentioned by the honourable Member, but, as I have already informed him, I have fully considered the case, and I have no intention of reversing the deliberate decision of my predecessor in office.
