§ MR. C. MCARTHUR (Liverpool, Exchange)I beg to ask the President of the Board of Trade, with reference to the new clause to be proposed by him in Committee on the Merchant Shipping (Mercantile Marine Fund) Bill, when he will be in a position to announce the new scale and regulations which are to be made by the Board of Trade for the carrying of boys by British merchant ships, without which information it is impossible to estimate whether the proposed remuneration is adequate. Perhaps I may also be allowed to ask the right honourable Gentleman when he intends to proceed further with the Bill?
THE PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD TRADEI anticipate being able, when the Bill next comes before the House, which I hope may be Wednesday, to indicate the general nature of the scale and regulations which, if the Bill passes, I shall propose for the concurrence of the Treasury.
