HC Deb 08 July 1898 vol 61 cc331-2
MR. FLYNN (Cork, N.)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether he can now state if the Treasury has yet consented to grant the necessary funds to enable the Commissioners of National Education to make the proposed reduction of the average attendance in National schools from 70 to 60, in order to qualify for the employment of assistant teachers?

MR. GERALD BALFOUR

This matter is still the subject of correspondence between the Irish Government and the Treasury, and until the correspondence is finally closed I cannot make a statement on the subject.
