HC Deb 04 July 1898 vol 60 cc936-7
MR. POWER (Waterford, E.)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland what portion of thy sanitary tax now paid by Tramore and district, Waterford union, for water supply, etc., and now amounting to a tar of 1s. 8d. in the £, will be borne by occupiers of houses and land in the contributing area under the provisions of the Local Government Bill?

MR. ATKINSON

The rate for sanitary purposes in the rural district referred to is levied as part of the poor rate, and under the existing law half of the rate is payable by the landlord. Clause 90 of the Local Government Bill provides for the deduction from rents in consequence of the change of incidence of rates caused by the operation of the Bill.
