§ THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE COLONIES (Mr. J. CHAMBERLAIN,) Birmingham, W.A proposal for the imposition of a hut tax on the Gold Coast was made by the late Governor, but I shall not take it into consideration till I have received the Report of the Royal Commissioner, who is to inquire into the operation of the tax at Sierra Leone.
