§ SIR J. LENG (Dundee)I beg to ask the Lord Advocate whether he is aware that Sheriff Mair, in Glasgow, has sustained the decisions of Sheriffs Glasford Bell and Sir Archibald Allison that a fee of £1 is exigible by a registrar for record- 942 ing an irregular marriage in Glasgow, although in other places the payment of such a fee has been prohibited; and whether he will take steps to secure uniformity of practice in this matter throughout Scotland?
§ THE LORD ADVOCATE (Mr. GRAHAM MURRAY,) ButeshireThe facts are, I believe, as stated in the first paragraph of the Question. I have, as I promised the honourable Member on the 18th of February, communicated with the sheriffs. As the result of that communication, I am not disposed to move in the matter. If I were disposed to so move, I am not sure that it would give any satisfaction to those persons whom the honourable Member represents.
