HC Deb 11 August 1898 vol 64 cc928-9
MR. BUNCOMBE (Cumberland, Egremont)

I wish to ask the Leader of the House whether he can arrange that in future Sessions the Vote for the grant in aid of the Volunteer force shall be taken in one Vote, instead of being divided into two as now?

MR. BRODRICK

I suppose the object of my honourable Friend is to have one discussion on the Volunteer Vote. A discussion on a supplementary Vote does not in any way affect the Debate on the main Vote. As to the two Debates this year, one commenced at 11.30 and the other at 7 or 8 o'clock, and that surely afforded ample time for discussion. The division of the Vote has only taken place when it has been desired to pay money in advance. Of course, we will endeavour in future years to bring on the main Vote as early as possible.
