HC Deb 08 August 1898 vol 64 c493
MR. PATRICK O'BRIEN

On behalf of the honourable Member for the St. Patrick Division of Dublin I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether he can state what amount of money has been voted for the fortification of Bear Island, in Bantry Bay; whether a portion of that amount has been already expended; and whether the Government will devote a portion of that money, or provide a separate fund, for the extension of the railroad from Kenmare to a deep-water pier in Berehaven?

MR. ATKINSON

The inquiries in the first and second paragraphs should be addressed to my right honourable Friend the Secretary to the Admiralty. As regards the third paragraph the honourable Member has, I think, been informed more than once that there are no funds at the disposal of the Irish Government for the construction of additional lines of railway.
