HC Deb 05 August 1898 vol 64 cc283-4
MR. COGHILL (Stoke-upon-Trent)

I beg to ask the First Lord of the Treasury when he proposes to take into consideration the Lords' Amendments to the Vaccination Bill?

THE FIRST LORD OF THE TREASURY

To-night. I cannot give a pledge as to the hour, but the subject will not be taken before 12 o'clock.

DR. CLARK (Caithness)

May I remind the right honourable Gentleman that the Bill has not yet been read a third time in the House of Lords, and until that is done we do not know what the Amendments will be for our consideration?

THE FIRST LORD OF THE TREASURY

The honourable Gentleman knows that if the Bill is not read a third time we cannot take the Amendments to-night, but I have reason to believe that the Bill will be read a third time by the Lords this afternoon.

MR. BARTLEY (Islington, N.)

Will the right honourable Gentleman name an hour after which the Vaccination Bill will not be taken?

THE FIRST LORD OF THE TREASURY

I shall not begin the consideration of the Lords' Amendments after one o'clock.

MR. BAYLEY (Derbyshire, Chesterfield)

Shall we be able to get the printed Amendments from the Vote Office?

THE FIRST LORD OF THE TREASURY

I am afraid I cannot say, but I imagine that the discussion will be of such a character that in the absence of printed Amendments honourable Members will be put to no inconvenience.

MR. COGHILL

I beg to ask the First Lord of the Treasury whether it is the intention of the Government to introduce next Session a Re-vaccination Bill?

THE FIRST LORD OF THE TREASURY

I cannot pledge the Government as to the course of legislation next Session.
