HC Deb 04 August 1898 vol 64 c99
MR. H. D. GREENE (Shrewsbury)

I beg to ask the President of the Local Government Board whether his attention has been called] to the decision of the Court of Appeal, given on the 25th instant in the case of the Mayor of Thetford v. the County Council of Norfolk, declaring that small boroughs must contribute to county rate without receiving contribution to the expense of administering justice; and whether, in view of the fact that numerous small boroughs and county councils have since 1888 acted upon a decision of the High Court thereby overruled, he will consider the expediency of introducing legislation to declare or enact that what has hitherto been believed to be law, and been acted upon accordingly, should henceforth be the law?

THE PRESIDENT OF THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT BOARD

I am aware of the decision which was given a few days since by the Court of Appeal in the case referred to. The subject will receive my consideration.
