HC Deb 03 August 1898 vol 15 c1184
MR. BURNIE

In the absence of the hon. Member for Ross and Cromarty (Mr. Weir) I beg to ask the Secretary for Scotland whether, in view of the fact that a large number of the inhabitants of Muir of Ord, Ross-shire, have petitioned the Board of Supervision, as well as the District Authorities, with regard to the impurity of the water supply of the town, the Board of Supervision will make immediate inquiry into the matter, or cause the Local Authorities to do so?

THE SECRETARY FOR SCOTLAND (Sir G. TREVELYAN,) Glasgow, Bridgeton

In reply to the hon. Member, I may point out that it is the duty of the Local Authority—in the present case the Mid Ross District Committee—to deal with any complaint as to the impurity of the water supply. If the Local Authority decline to entertain the complaint it will then become the duty of the Board of Supervision to make such inquiry as may be necessary.
