HC Deb 29 April 1898 vol 56 c1556
SIR JOSEPH LEESE (Lancashire, S.E., Accrington)

I beg to ask the First Lord of the Treasury whether the Government have any information as to the state of affairs in the Philippine Islands; and whether any, and what, steps have been taken to protect British subjects engaged in trade in Manila and other places in the islands?

THE FIRST LORD OF THE TREASURY

A Report was received from Her Majesty's Consul at Manila, dated March 11th last, stating that the rebellion against the Spanish authorities had again broken out in the northern provinces of the islands. No more recent Report has been received. One of Her Majesty's ships has been ordered to Manila to watch events and communicate with Her Majesty's Consul.
