HC Deb 25 April 1898 vol 56 cc971-2
SIR W. HOULDSWORTH (Manchester, N.W.)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for India (1) whether he is aware that failures have taken place in India owing to the stringency of money; and (2) whether, in view of the anxiety felt in this country, he can now make public the currency proposals of the Indian Government?

THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR INDIA

I have no information tending to corroborate the first statement in my hon. Friend's Question. As regards the currency proposals of the Indian Government, I hope in the course of the week to be able to publish them as well as the names of the Committee I propose to appoint to inquire into them.
