HC Deb 04 April 1898 vol 56 c47
MR. D. H. COGHILL (Stoke-upon-Trent)

I beg to ask the First Lord of the Treasury if he is aware of the very grave dissatisfaction that is felt on the north side of the Thames with the Gaslight and Coke Company's charges for gas, as compared with those prevailing on the south side of the Thames; and if he will grant a Committee to inquire as to the prices charged by the Gaslight and Coke Company for gas for the last 10 years; the profits earned during the same period; and the difference in the price of gas supplied on the north and south sides of the Thames?

THE PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD OF TRADE (Mr. C. T. RITCHIE,) Croydon

It does not seem to be necessary to appoint a Committee to inquire into the matters specified in the hon. Member's Question. They are matters of fact, which can be shortly and clearly stated. If the hon. Member will put down a Motion asking for a Return covering the information he has asked for in his Question, I will ask the Company to supply it.
