HC Deb 27 May 1897 vol 49 c1431
MR. TULLY

I beg to ask the First Lord of the Treasury whether he is in a position to state if the baronial charges for light railways and drainage works, which, are included in the county cess, and press so heavily in some parts of Ireland, will form portion of the rural rates of which the Government propose to pay half for the occupiers?

MR. P. C. DOOGAN (Tyrone, E.)

I beg to ask the First Lord of the Treasury if the Local Government Bill which he is to introduce next Session will contain any provision for relieving agricultural land in the Lough Erne district from the existing burden of drainage tax?

THE FIRST LORD OF THE TREASURY

I think it would not be convenient that, in answer to the Questions before the House, I should deal with questions of detail in a Bill to be introduced next year.
