HC Deb 18 May 1897 vol 49 cc732-3
MR. J. P. FARRELL

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland is he aware that an election for clerk of Petty Sessions for the Letterbreen district, County Fermanagh, was held on the 19th February last; that on memorials forwarded to the Irish authorities they annulled the election and ordered another to be held on the 21st instant; and, will he say on what grounds the successful candidate was disqualified and the said election voided, and why the candidate who obtained the next largest vote was not appointed without further action?

MR. GERALD BALFOUR

The election to the Petty Sessions Clerkship of Letterbreen, held on the 19th February, was not annulled in consequence of memorials received by Government, but because the election was bad having regard to the terms of the advertisement inviting candidates to apply. A fresh election will take place on Friday next.
