HC Deb 17 May 1897 vol 49 c614
SIR CHARLES CAMERON (Glasgow, Bridgeton)

I beg to ask the Lord Advocate (1) whether his attention has been called to the statement that quantities of herrings imported from abroad are being branded as Loch Fyne herrings and sold under that denomination in the Scottish markets; and (2) whether he is aware that, on a complaint that East Coast herrings were being so branded, the Scottish Fishery Board took steps to prevent the fraudulent use of the brand in their case; if so, whether its fraudulent use in the case of foreign herrings can be prevented?

*THE LORD ADVOCATE (Mr. GRAHAM MURRAY,) Buteshire

I am informed by the Fishery Board that they have communicated with their Officers at the leading fishery stations on the Scottish coasts, including Glasgow, and these officials all report that they have no knowledge of any such practice as that stated in the first part of the hon. Member's Question. I am aware of the case referred to in the second part of the Question.
