HC Deb 14 May 1897 vol 49 c506

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether his attention has been called to the numerous accidents which have recently resulted from the, exhibition of performing bears in the streets of London and elsewhere: and whether there exists any law or police order under which these exhibitions can be put a stop to?

No such accidents have been reported to the Metropolitan Police or been brought to the notice of the Secretary of State from other districts. The matter is one which is provided for by law, and in regard to which the Metropolitan Police have suitable instructions.
