HC Deb 10 May 1897 vol 49 c106
MR. J. P. FARRELL

I beg to ask the Attorney General for Ireland whether representations have been made to him by the Midland Great Western Railway of Ireland to the effect that statutes passed in the reigns of George III. and William IV. would be infringed by the passage of the Canals and Navigable Rivers (Ireland) Bill; and will he lay the correspondence with the railway company upon the Table of the House?

THE ATTORNEY GENERAL FOR IRELAND (Mr. J. ATKINSON,) Londonderry, N.

Representations have been made to me by the railway company that, under the Railway and Canal Traffic Act, 1888, and 58 Geo. III., cap 35, they are bound to do whatever may be required by the Board of Control or Board of Trade to render the canal as little dangerous to the public as is consistent with its use, that they have carried out the directions and requirements of these bodies and are willing to continue to do so, and that the Bill of the hon. Member is entirely unnecessary. It is not intended to lay the correspondence on the Table.
