Member for Ross and Cromarty, I beg to ask the Lord Advocate whether, having regard to the fact that it is the practice in the case of illegal trawling in Danish waters to punish the offenders not only by a substantial fine but also by confiscation of the trawler's gear, will he consider the expediency of taking such steps as will admit of a similar course being adopted in the case of illegal trawling off the coasts of Scotland?
§ * THE LORD ADVOCATEThe hon. Member appears to be unaware of the fact that the existing law, contained in the Herring Fishery (Scotland) Amendment Act, 1890, already provides for confiscation of nets upon conviction of illegal trawling.
