HC Deb 25 March 1897 vol 47 c1317
SIR JOHN LENG (Dundee)

I beg to ask the Secretary to the Treasury, as representing the Postmaster General, what is the scale of population which regulates the maximum rates of wages in post offices in the United Kingdom?

MR. HANBURY

The maximum wages of Post Office servants is not solely governed by the scale of population of any town, but by the general circumstances of each case, and by the current value of labour in the town and neighbourhood.
