HC Deb 25 March 1897 vol 47 c1295
SIR CHARLES DILKE (Gloucester, Forest of Dean)

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for War how many horses would be required for the Cavalry on the Home Establishment on a war footing; and how many horses over six but under fourteen years of age are now maintained in the regiments on that establishment?

THE UNDER SECRETARY OF STATE FOR WAR (Mr. BRODRICK,) Surrey, Guildford

If the whole of the home force were mobilised the Cavalry would require 9,193 horses. The peace establishment of horses of these regiments is 6,993, and of these 3,625 are between six and fourteen years of age.
