EDMUND ROBERTSON (Dundee)I beg to ask the President of the Board of Trade whether any steps have been taken by the Board to bring about a settlement of the dispute in the Engineering Trade; and, if not, whether he will endeavour to induce both parties to refer the dispute to arbitration before engaging in a protracted and wasteful struggle?
§ MR. RITCHIENo application has been made to the Board of Trade in this matter. I understand that the parties to the dispute have been in direct communication with each other. It does not seem to me that the Board can at present usefully intervene.
