HC Deb 28 June 1897 vol 50 c674

On the Order for the Second Reading of this Bill,

MR. HALDANE

asked the First Lord of the Treasury when he proposed to take this Bill?

THE FIRST LORD OF THE TREASURY

Not now. [Loud laughter.]

MR. HALDANE

reminded the right hon. Gentleman that on a former occasion he had referred to the Bill as a non-contentious Measure.

THE FIRST LORD OF THE TREASURY

There are differences between that occasion and the present of a most important character. [Laughter.]

Second Reading deferred till Tomorrow.
