asked the Secretary to the Treasury if he could give the Committee any explanation of Item A, which referred to foreign refugees.

said there was only one Spanish refugee left—[laughter]— and special care had been taken to Lind Hut what he was actually about. When he came into office he had special inquiry made at once With regard to all these persons, and there was no doubt that at that time they were all in existence.
