HC Deb 15 July 1897 vol 51 cc161-2
MR. C. E. SCHWANN (Manchester, N.)

I beg to ask the Secretary to the Treasury, as representing the Postmaster General, whether he can now give a reply to the memorial of the employés of the Manchester Post Office, presented to the Postmaster General 11 months ago, on 6th August 1896, especially with regard to Clauses 1, 4, 5, and 8?

MR. HANBURY

The Postmaster General regrets that so much delay should have taken place in formally replying to the memorial of the Manchester town postmen. But the memorial raised questions of overwork, which necessitated careful inquiry, and which in many cases has received a practical answer in the revision of the staff. The Postmaster General is now, however, in a position to send a formal reply to the various points raised in the memorial, and the men may expect to receive it through the ordinary official channel during the present month.
