HC Deb 15 July 1897 vol 51 cc175-6
MR. R. PIERPOINT (Warrington)

I beg to ask the Attorney General whether his attention has been called to the fact that railway tickets were issued to Members by the War Office for conveyance to and from Aldershot on the occasion of the Jubilee Review without there having been printed or written thereon the fare chargeable for the journey; and whether the War Office or the railway company is liable under 52 and 53 Vic. c. 57, s. 6.

THE ATTORNEY GENERAL (Sir RICHARD WEBSTER, Isle of Wight)

I am informed that the tickets in question were issued under special arrangements with the War Office at less than the ordinary fares, and under Clause 3 of the Order of the Board of Trade of 1890, there was no obligation on the part of the company to print the fare on the tickets, and they are not liable to any penalty.
