Member for Ross and Cromarty I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, if he will state the result of his inquiry in regard to the classification of patients in county asylums whose maintenance is either 1461 wholly or partly recouped by sums received from relatives; and, whether it is intended to continue to classify such patients as paupers.
§ *SIR MATTHEW WHITE RIDLEYThe inquiry I have made confirms the supposition, which I expressed in my previous answer on this subject, that no real grievance exists. The present classification is based on the definition of the word ''pauper" in the Lunacy Act of 1890; and I do not see sufficient reason for introducing the legislation which would be necessary if any alteration were to be made.
