HC Deb 06 July 1897 vol 50 c1218
MR. J. C. FLYNN (Cork, N.)

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs respecting those who have been found guilty of taking part in the massacre of Armenians at Tokat, (1) whether he can state how many, if any, of the parties sentenced to various terms of imprisonment are now actually under-going imprisonment; and (2) whether the representatives of the Powers have made any representations to the Porte concerning the parties who have been condemned to death for murder, but who still remain unpunished owing to the non-issue of the Sultan's irade.

MR. CURZON

I answered the first part of the hon. Member's Question yesterday. Those who were condemned to imprisonment have been imprisoned, although we have not been informed of the actual numbers. As regards the second paragraph, Her Majesty's Ambassador reports that he has has never ceased pressing the Porte for a confirmation of the capital sentences, and that his colleagues have made similar representations.
