§ SIR ELLIS ASHMEAD-BARTLETT (Sheffield, Ecclesall)I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether the Transvaal Volksraad have passed a Law making the High Court of the Transvaal subject to resolutions of the Volksraad, and placing the Judges under the Boer Executive; and, if so, what steps Her Majesty's Government propose to take to secure impartial justice and the protection of Law for the British Uitlander population?
§ THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE COLONIES (Mr. J. CHAMBERLAIN,) Birmingham, W.I understand that such a Law as the hon. Member describes has been introduced into the Volksraad, but I have no information that it has been passed. In any event, the protection of British subjects in the South African Republic is secured by the Convention, which Her Majesty's Government have declared their intention to maintain in its integrity.
