§ SIR JOHN LUBBOCK (London University)I beg to ask the First Lord of the Treasury whether the Government would take into consideration the desirability of establishing a National holiday in commemoration of Her Majesty's long and auspicious reign?
§ THE FIRST LORD OF THE TREASURYI believe that in 1887, the year of the Jubilee, there was a Bank Holiday provided under the existing statute, and we should propose to follow the precedent then set, in the present year. [Cheers.]
§ SIR JOHN LUBBOCKI should like to ask the right hon. Gentleman if the Government will not consider whether they should continue that holiday in the future and make, it, a permanent, holiday. [Cries of "No!"]
§ THE FIRST LORD OF THE TREASURYThat opens a very difficult and much larger question. I hardly think that would be desirable. [" Hear, hear."]
