HC Deb 08 February 1897 vol 45 cc1540-1
MR. C. J. MONK (Gloucester)

I beg to ask the First Commissioner of Works whether his attention has been called to the state of the road between Marlborough House and Buckingham Palace; whether immediate steps will be taken to repair the same: and, whether he has considered the desirability of continuing the wood pavement between Marlborough House and Buckingham Gate?

THE FIRST COMMISSIONER OF WORKS (Mr. AKERS-DOUGLAS,) Kent, St. Augustine's

I am aware that this road is not at present in good condition. It has been the custom to repair it twice a year (April and September) but the traffic has been growing so considerably, that it will be necessary to mend the road at shorter intervals in future. I propose to have the work done now as soon as possible. I am now considering the question of laying down wood paving on this portion of the roadway.
