HC Deb 04 February 1897 vol 45 c1275
MR. J. P. FARRELL

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Trade whether, in view of the many accidents which have occurred in the Royal Canal Harbour at Longford, resulting in the death of a great number of persons since it was first opened, he is prepared to give his assent to the introduction of a short Bill to enable Town Commissioners and other public bodies to enclose such dangerous places, which it appears they cannot at present legally do?

THE PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD OF TRADE (Mr. C. T. RITCHIE,) Croydon

Until I have seen such a Measure as is referred to by the hon. Member, I am not able to say what my attitude will be in respect to it.
